Valentino SS1998 Colorblock Twisted Cutout Gown

This rare Valentino runway gown features a clean bateau neckline, sleeveless cut, and a fitted color-blocked bodice in two tones of violet and lilac. From the front, the silhouette is minimal and elongated, allowing the bold palette to speak for itself.
The drama is reserved for the back. Two fabric bands extend from the shoulders, twist at the center, and anchor at the low waist, creating a sculptural cutout that frames the back and closes into a sharp V-shaped point. From the hip, a fluid chartreuse yellow skirt falls cleanly over the body, skimming the figure before finishing in a softly flared, floor-grazing hem. In the original SS1998 runway sequence (pic 10), this look appears immediately after Jennifer Lopez’s 1998 Golden Globes dress — a major archival reference, as it marked her Golden Globes debut. Her look shares the same color-blocked palette and sculptural twisted cutouts, making the two pieces a striking pair within the collection.
