Valentino FW2004 Red Taffeta Rosette Appliqué Gown

This gown is crafted in vivid red taffeta with a subtle sheen. The silhouette is fitted through the bodice and waist, with long vertical paneling running from the top of the dress down to the hem. These panels contour the body and create an elongated line, while soft ruching at the bust adds shape. Inside, the gown is constructed with a separate lightly boned corset that zips independently, helping define the waist and support the structured silhouette. From the hips, the skirt skims the body before flaring toward the hem. At the back, triangular godet panels are inserted into the train, creating a dramatic flared finish.
The signature details are the two oversized rosette appliqués placed at the pocket openings. The floral rosettes add sculptural dimension while highlighting one of its most charming features: functional side pockets!

This gown appeared as Look #53 on the Valentino Fall/Winter 2004 runway, modeled by Caroline Trentini, and was the only red look shown in the entire collection.
It was later worn by Penélope Cruz when she won Best Actress at the 2004 David di Donatello Awards, and also by Naomi Campbell during a special fashion presentation on The Oprah Winfrey Show in October 2004. The design also appears in The Devil Wears Prada, featured in the Paris runway sequence.
