Valentino SS2006 Runway Embellished Loop Gown
This Valentino gown is crafted in ivory silk crepe, featuring a structured bodice that flows into a long, fluid skirt. The silhouette skims the hips before subtly flaring at the hem, extending into a softly rounded train at the back.
The eye-catching centerpiece is executed using Valentino atelier's signature budellini couture technique, in which rolled double charmeuse silk is wrapped around a looped length of wool and meticulously stitched to form tubular cords that create a sculptural, contouring effect. At the waist, these budellini cords are arranged into a Chinese-inspired interlocking knot motif, accented with crystals and framed by embellished horizontal banding that defines and cinches the silhouette. From the knot extend two elongated tassels, intricately finished with a mix of faceted crystal drops, marquise-cut stones, and beaded elements. These tassels fall in a clean vertical line, catching light with each movement.
🫧 Reference: Worn by Keira Knightley at the 2006 Golden Globes, where she was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in Pride & Prejudice. As noted by Fashionista, she "subtly emulated Elizabeth Bennet on the red carpet" — such an early instance of method dressing! This exact look was selected by both Vogue and Harper's Bazaar in 2026 as one of "The Best Golden Globes Dresses of All Time."
It's an exact runway look from the Spring/Summer 2006 Valentino show, modeled by Jacquetta Wheeler.

Remarkably well-preserved for a light-colored silk piece. No pulls or discoloration to the crepe. No missing embellishment. Two tiny dots on the front hem (see last pic), unnoticeable when worn.
